Just About was born from a simple, powerful idea: to fairly reward dedicated players and content creators who help grow online communities. Too often, these creators contribute their time and passion to platforms without receiving their due. Just About set out to change that by building a platform where creators are treated as partners, rewarded fairly for the value they bring.
We were brought on board to lead the tech team from the ground up, ensuring the platform could scale from a startup into something as big and impactful as Reddit. This involved the technical planning of the entire project, building out the core functionality, and managing a team of engineers to bring this ambitious vision to life.
We started by assembling a talented team, putting together the right mix of backend and frontend expertise to deliver the platform. One of our backend engineers built the core API using Strapi, ensuring the system could handle the needs of a growing user base. Meanwhile, our frontend engineer designed the interface with Storybook, providing a seamless user experience while maintaining flexibility for future iterations.
The app itself was built using NextJS, giving Just About the speed, scalability, and efficiency it needed to succeed.
However, the most significant challenge of the project lay in handling payments—this was the beating heart of the platform. Just About’s business model involved distributing funds from partners to creators based on their contributions to the community. We developed a custom algorithm that evaluated both the quality and quantity of user contributions, ensuring payments were distributed fairly and securely. This required meticulous planning, as well as a balance of fairness and transparency, to make sure the system worked smoothly for all parties involved.
The platform also enabled users to embed third-party content from platforms like YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok. Our system ensured that only content creators received rewards for their own material, using verification tools to confirm ownership before any payouts were made.
After twelve months of development and refinement, Just About was primed for success. The platform grew to the point where it successfully secured a Series A funding round, demonstrating its viability and potential. With a fully operational team in place, Just About transitioned from our leadership to their own full-time tech team, ready to take the platform to new heights.
The project was a resounding success, not only in terms of its technical achievements but also in its mission to reshape how online communities recognize and reward their contributors.
